Margherita Hack è stata professoressa ordinaria di astronomia all’Università di Trieste dal 1964 al 1992 poi è passata al ruolo di professore emerito dal 1998. Ha diretto l’Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste dal 1964 al 1987, portandolo a rinomanza internazionale. Membro delle più prestigiose società fisiche e astronomiche, Margherita Hack è stata anche direttore del Dipartimento di Astronomia dell’Università di Trieste dal 1985 al 1991 e dal 1994 al 1997. È membro dell’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. E’ molto nota anche per le sue attività non strettamente scientifiche e in campo sociale e politico. In segno di apprezzamento per il suo importante contributo, le è stato anche intitolato l’asteroide 8558 Hack.
